Iraq Mandates Medical Insurance for Pilgrims, Included in Visa Cost

 

The Iraqi government has introduced mandatory medical insurance for all pilgrims visiting the country, ensuring comprehensive financial protection in case of medical emergencies, accidents, or unforeseen incidents. This insurance, provided by approved Iraqi companies, will be automatically included in the visa fee during issuance.

 


 

Key Highlights of the Mandatory Medical Insurance

Pilgrims applying for an e-visa or a visa on arrival are now required to pay an additional $40 to $50 for a comprehensive medical insurance policy. This policy offers extensive coverage to ensure peace of mind throughout their stay in Iraq.

Insurance Coverage Includes:

  • Accidental Death or Disability: Up to 15 million IQD ($10,000).
  • Hospitalization and Emergency Medical Expenses: Up to 10 million IQD ($6,600).
  • Dental Accident Coverage: Up to 150,000 IQD ($100).
  • Repatriation of Remains: Coverage up to 3 million IQD ($2,000).
  • Quarantine Expenses: For up to 14 days, covered up to 3 million IQD ($2,000).
  • Outpatient Medical Visits, Lab Tests, and Medications: Up to 750,000 IQD ($500).

 


 

Implementation & Regulations

The policy will be issued by Al-Hamraa Insurance Company, while medical expenses will be managed by Integrated Care Company through a network of authorized healthcare providers across Iraq. Pilgrims will be provided with a digital insurance card, which must be presented at clinics and hospitals when seeking medical treatment.

Additionally, the Iraqi Ministry of Health requires all foreign visitors to undergo mandatory HIV testing at designated medical centers in Iraq.
